Plainfield Designated Transit Village

Fabulous news for our town of Plainfield!

The city has been designated a transit village, the twenty-eighth in the state, and Mayor Adrian Mapp, as reported by NJ.com, welcomed the news, saying, “We believe that the Transit Village designation will greatly advance Plainfield’s continued revitalization,” Mapp said. “The transit village status, in conjunction with the one-seat ride to New York City, will help us promote the mixed-use development that has already begun in our downtown.”

For an overview of the Transit Village Initiative, which “creates incentives for municipalities to redevelop or revitalize the areas around transit stations using design standards of transit-oriented development (TOD)” visit the NJ Department of Transportation site.

Additionally, Bernice provides a timeline of the city’s efforts in obtaining this status in her blog post earlier today, ‘Celebrate the Transit Village Designation!‘.  Give it a read!
