Plainfield Symphony Announces Schedule for 95th Season

The Plainfield Symphony Orchestra will continue to dazzle audiences with a spectacular 95th Season, led by its esteemed conductor Charles Prince, with masterworks that will take you from the spiritual to the sensual! The season includes the world premiere of a work commissioned for the PSO and conducted by the composer himself, world-renowned Marco Frisina from Rome.

The season opens on October 11, 2014 with a gala concert “Musical Treasures of Rome – the Music of Marco Frisina”. This is very special opportunity to hear selections of Marco Frisina’s music that range from film to opera to the sacred including the commissioned Sinfonia Mysterium Paschale. The orchestra will be joined by the Crescent Choral Society and dramatic soprano, Elizabeth Perryman. This concert will be repeated in a non-subscription performance on October 12, 2014 at the Ridge Performing Arts Center in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

On November 22, 2014, audiences will be treated to “The Tone Poems of Richard Strauss”. From the sensual Salome to the heart-wrenching Death and Transfiguration, to the elegant chamber work Capriccio. Young Pianist Competition winner Allen Yueh will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37.

The annual free Afternoon Family Concert will take place on February 21, 2015, reaffirming the orchestra’s commitment to community enrichment. To delight all, the program “The Orchestra Grows Up” will include works by Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Copland and more!

Maestro Prince brings glittering Broadway back to Plainfield on March 28, 2015 in “Bernstein on Broadway” with his special guest, Jamie Bernstein. Highlights will include symphonic and vocal works from West Side Story, Candide, and On the Town.

The 95th Season will close on April 25, 2015 with “The Artistry of Haydn and Brahms” showcasing two of the PSO’s own brilliant principal players Evelyn Estava and Jameson Platte performing Brahms’s Concerto for Violin and Violincello in A minor, Opus 102. One of the best known works of Haydn, Symphony No. 88 in G major, will open the concert.

Season tickets for the 2014-2015 concerts are now on sale and can be purchased on the symphony’s website, www.plainfieldsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the concert.
