Planning Board Considers South Avenue Redevlopment Projects

The Plainfield Planning Board will be meeting on February 6, 2020, 7:30 PM at the Plainfield City Hall Library, 515 Watchung Avenue.  The agenda will include a public hearing on a non-condemnation area in need of development investigation for properties including the closed Fig Tree market, Burger King and Fantasy Affairs Lifestyle.

PLANNING BOARD OF THE CITY OF PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY PUBLIC HEARING ON A NON-CONDEMNATION AREA IN NEED OF REDEVELOPMENT INVESTIGATION PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on February 6, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. at the Plainfield City Hall Library, 515 Watchung Avenue, Plainfield, New Jersey, the City Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing to consider whether to recommend to the City Council that the property identified as Block 625, Lots 1, 2 and 85 on the tax maps of the City of Plainfield, commonly known as 1202-1214 South Avenue, 1216-1242 South Avenue, and 513-515 Leland Avenue, respectively, in the City tax records, along with all streets and rights of way appurtenant thereto (the “Study Area”) should be designated as a Non-Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment, in accordance with the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1 et seq. (the “Redevelopment Law”) which authorizes municipal governing bodies to designate certain areas of the municipality as being in need of redevelopment. You have a right to be heard at the public hearing. Any interested party may appear at the public hearing and participate in the public hearing, in accordance with the rules of the Planning Board. The area in need of redevelopment investigation report prepared by Nishuane Group and a map depicting the boundaries of the Study Area are on file with the City Clerk and are available for inspection during normal business hours. Once the Planning Board has made its recommendation, the City Council will consider whether to designate the Study Area as an area in need of redevelopment by resolution pursuant to the Redevelopment Law. Such a determination shall operate as a finding of public purpose but shall not authorize the municipality to exercise the power of eminent domain to acquire the Study Area.
